Choose the state and the event you want to verify

Northampton County exists in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia. Confirm the state from a citation, police agency, town or court notice before searching. A DUI arrest, detention, filed charge and final judgment are separate events. This guide follows all three county branches; no single county arrest list covers them. Start with the arresting agency for an incident report, the jail for detention information and the filing court for what happened to the charge.

Keep the full name, any reliable identity details, arrest date, agency incident number, citation number and court number you already have. Do not infer that two similar names are the same person. If your question is the outcome, request the disposition rather than relying on an arrest announcement, a scheduled hearing or a booking entry.

Pennsylvania: booking contacts and a clerk search

For Northampton County Prison, the county lists Central Booking at 610-923-4300 and Records at 610-923-4303. Give the person and booking or arrest date, and ask which record can be released. A person’s absence from current custody information does not answer whether an earlier arrest occurred. Confirm current detention with the facility rather than treating an old record as a live status.

The Criminal Division offers a Common Pleas criminal-record search for $10 in person or by mail, with extra copy or certification charges where applicable. A mailed payment may be a business check, certified check or money order payable to Criminal Division; personal checks and mailed cash are not accepted. Include the name, birth date and case number if known. The county says disposition or sentencing information cannot be provided over the telephone.

North Carolina: distinguish the DWI case from jail records

Use North Carolina Portal to locate a Northampton case by known identifying details and county. Smart Search gives the case summary and dispositions; Search Hearings answers where and when a hearing is scheduled. For an actual filing or a certified outcome, contact the Northampton Clerk of Superior Court through the court directory at 252-574-3100. The Judicial Branch directs background checks to the clerk’s office, not Portal.

The Northampton Sheriff’s official directory lists the Sheriff Office at 252-534-2611 and the Chief Jailer at 252-534-3901. Use the jail contact for detention questions. Ask the police agency that investigated the incident for its report; it may be a different agency from the sheriff. North Carolina warns that the complete police report may not be public, even when a court case is searchable.

If you need a certified county criminal name search, the clerk’s AOC-CR-314 service costs $25 and checks that county only. Free courthouse terminal research is noncertified. For a case-document copy, state law lists $2 for the first page of each document, $0.25 for each additional page and a separate $3 certificate-under-seal service; ask the clerk how the applicable charges and exceptions affect your request.

Virginia: use the General District case service and actual custodian

Virginia’s General District Court Case Information service searches by locality using a name, case number or hearing date. Select Northampton. Its county court page lists DUI proceedings, while the statewide directory also provides access to participating Circuit Court cases. If the matter moved or was appealed, identify the later court instead of stopping at the first hearing entry.

Northampton General District Court is at 5229 The Hornes, Eastville, VA 23347; the clerk’s number is 757-678-0466, with published hours of 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Ask for the particular charge document or final order and specify whether a certified copy is required. The directory does not quote a universal price or turnaround for your copy; obtain the format, charge and delivery details from that clerk.

The county’s public-record instructions direct Eastern Shore Regional Jail requests to the Sheriff and court-record requests to the specific court. Thus a general county-administration request is not the right substitute. Identify the arresting agency separately for its incident record, and describe an existing record rather than asking the county to create a new arrest-history report.

Make the request narrow enough to be useful

  1. Name the state, court or agency, person and approximate incident date.
  2. Ask for the record that answers the question: incident report, booking/release information, charging document, judgment or dismissal.
  3. Include the known incident, citation or docket number and distinguish any later court number.
  4. Request ordinary or certified copies as needed; obtain the applicable fee, delivery method and expected handling time before paying.

Court copies do not automatically include the police investigation or the jail’s entire file. If you receive only a docket summary, ask for the specific order referenced in the entry. A clear document request reduces the risk of paying for a county search when you already know the case number and only need its outcome.

Do not turn an arrest record into a conviction claim

A listed DUI charge records an allegation; a later dismissal, acquittal, plea or judgment answers a different question. Compare the charge-by-charge outcomes and dates. A missing disposition should remain unresolved until confirmed, rather than being treated as either a conviction or exoneration. A court record also does not, by itself, establish present jail status or the current status of a driving privilege.

Pennsylvania’s public-search guidance excludes some sealed, expunged, limited-access and juvenile records, among other unavailable docket sheets. North Carolina likewise separates publicly searchable case information from restricted documents and complete police reports. No result can mean a limited search or access restriction, not necessarily that no event occurred.

Follow up at the source of a mismatch

For a wrong name, missing outcome or inconsistent date, retain the exact case number and the document showing the discrepancy. Raise a court-entry issue with the filing clerk and an arrest-report issue with the agency that created it. For a background report missing an outcome, obtain the court disposition and ask the reporting custodian how it can be updated. Keep the corrected response and date of the recheck.

Do not copy a Pennsylvania contact or fee into a North Carolina or Virginia request. The state-specific routes above concern records access; questions about defending a DUI charge, reopening a case or removing a record require the procedures of that state and court.
